WORK STOPPED ON STEAMERS. IPer Press Association.) Lyttelton, last night. Work has been stopped on the steamers Talune and Waikare, whioh were transferring cargo, aad they have been isolated in consequence of suspicious sickness on the former. The forecabin stewardess, Mrs Williams, was seen by Dr Upham, who telephoned to Dr Finch. It is stated that Mrs Williams is suffering from alongstanding ailment. VESSELS RELEASED AND WORK RESUMED. Some excitement was caused at Lyttelton this morning when it became known that the Union Co,’s steamers Talune and Waikare, lying at No. 2 Jetty, had been ordered into isolation on account of a case of illness on board the former. The Lyttelton passengers had landed, and the work of discharging cargo had been begun, when Dr. Upham, the port health officer, was called in to see Mrs Williams, forecabin stewardess on the Talune, who was ill. He deemed the case suspicious, and ordered work on the vessel to be stopped, no one on board to be allowed to leave, and no onb on Bhore to go aboard. He communicated with Dr. 1 Finch, district health officer, who went to Lyttelton, and shortly after two o’clock the embargo was removed and work on the vessel resumed. Mrs Williams is to be isolated and sent to Wellington.
