THE STRANDED NIWARU.
WHOLE OF. THE CARGO ,TQ BE
LANDED,
Per Press Association,;
¥f NAPIER, lac; nightThere is little fresh to report, regarding the Niwaru. The whole of the cargo will be landed here, as it is feared that the water has found its .way from the damaged hold into other compartments of the ship. An effort will be made as soon as the caego is out to shift the steameij nearer the breakwater, out of reach of the swell. Pumping operations on an elaborate scale were commenced to-day, and it is hoped to reduce the water sufficiently to permit an examination by, to-morrow;.? A general average of twenty per cent, has been struck on.the cargo. A magisterial enquiry as to the cause of the accident will probably be held about SaturdayLater. There is practically no ohange in the position of the Niwaru to-day. The main top mast was broken owing to the accidental swinging of the derrick. It is hoped that the pumping operations may soon reduce the quantity of water sufficiently to enable an examination to be made and repairs effeoted.
