WAIPAWA, last night. !A remittance man named Herbert Shaw, living at the Empire Hotel for some months, was found dead in bed this morning. He was 'apparently in his usual health last 'night. HAWERA, last night. A conference of the- delegates of local'bodies in Stratford, Patea and Hawera- counties discussed the ques- ! tion of a-railway to Mount Egmont, and passed a resolution , asking Messrs Symes, Major, and Jennings (M.H.R.’s), and Messrs Srotland, Kelly, and Carncross (M'L.C.’s) to: meet” n Hawera at an early, date the delegates of the bodies referred to. Failing this meeting, delegates .will wait on the Minister at'Wellington. '.WELLINGTON, last night.
Government has decided that in future the Gregg shorthand system, as well as Pitman’s, shall be recognised ' in all public service- examinations.
