Professor Lowrie, in a lecture to farmers at Christchurch, remarked that in, no country in the world were the conditions more favorable for dairying than in New. ■ Zealand. It had cool summers and warm Winters,,'and the farmers should not neglect their great opportunities in that direction. . . For some years a minimum wage provision has been in all Victorian Government contracts. Reoently, however, the Minister for Works called a number of tenders with and without the provision. These have been received, and the .Departmental report contrasting the prices 18 being prepared. The Melbourne Trades Hall Council is opposing the alteration of the present system.
