Lord Stanley, replying to a question, said be was aware of two instances where officers were deprived of half-pay or pension if they entered the Australian service. The regulation was based on the ground that the colonies were better served by officers on tho aotive list. It would be unfair if retired officers were employed in the colony and treated more favorably than those employed by the Imperial Government.
