DOMESTIC SERVANTS.
(To the Editor Gisborne Times.) gjr _l have read with interest the Re'veral letters on the above subject, ■uid I should like to say a few words in defence of the poor girls. It is a ■well-known fact that girls m the colonies will do alhiost anything in to accepting service as domestic servants. They will .work in factories, shops, and offices for- a few shillings a week, and wdl _pub i,n with almost any sacrifice rather than go out to service. .Thereason this is chiefly because mistresses expect too much from the girls As frulcithey regard the girls as workThey expect them to !ret UD at four or five o clock m the morning, wash and cook all day. and ™° the evening wait upon the guests. girl gets no half-holiday 1 ~ wpe k and few evenings oft. Compare this treatment with that f the shop girl, who is allowed to o£ rk only forty-two hours a week.
