'{Per Press Association.) Wellington, last night. A conference of delegatee from branohes of the Liberal and Labor Federation opened yesterday. About 120 delegatee were present, representing nearly every part of the colony. The proceedings were I private, the press representatives on seeking admission being informed that their presence was not desired. The Premier, 1 who is President of the Federation, gave an address daring the afternoon, in which ho declared ‘.hat the branohes of the organisation should keep in touch with one another and with the Executive of the day. Defects had been found to exist in the constitution of the Federation, and it would be necessary to remedy these in order to facilitate the carrying on of the affaire *&f the organisation. A dißOordant note had reoently been sounded by the allegation that the interests of the towns were in conflict with those of the country districts. This cry had been raised with the objeot of dismembering the Liberal party It should be shown by the Federation that the interests of town and country were idontioal. Mr Soddon rtportod that the Federation was in., a fair financial position.
