FROZEN MEAT.

SCHEME FOR RETAILING IN GREAT BRITAIN.

(Per Press Association^ Wellington, last night. A deputation, accompanied fay several members of the House, waited on Me. Seddon this afternoon to lay before him*a scheme for retailing the Now Zealand meat in Great Britain. It was explained that it was proposed to float a company for retailing the Company’s meat in the United Kingdom, and that the Company intended to make use of a new and improved defrosting process. A strong syndicate had been formed in New Zealand and in London, with a capital of a. quarter of a million to place New Zealand meat before the British public in quite a new way, and the deputation wanted-to. know whether the Premier thought the scheme would take the place of his own. They had received a cable message sayiDgthere was no prospect of floating a company while the Government scheme was .being talked about. Some of the deputation suegested it might be possible to suspend the Government scheme and givo this company an opportunity to do the work.

Mr Seddon said the Government’s pro. posals did not warrant any anxiety in the Old Land. The alarm was amongst the people, who had been making large profits. The Government was not going to cut the prices, but wanted to push in New. • Zealand meat where it was not now sold. If the private company would undertake this work he would undertake to say that there would be no clashing If the assurance went Home (hat the Government was going to do nothing antagonistic to the company, there would be no ' occasion for alarm. The Government” would give it-reasonable assistance, and would give it the same facilities in the way of grading, etc., as it would afford any other company, but he had to be careful not to say anything that might be used to help any company to float shares.
