POISONED BY PHOSPHOROUS.
A CHILD’S TOYS.
(Pcr Press Association.) Auckland, last night. A most extraordinary accident occurred last night, when D. Russell, a school teacher of Waibou (near Te Aroha), bis wife, and three girls, ranging from about twelve to three years, were accidentally poisoned with phosphorous. It appears that while the youngest girl was playing with a teapot, and box of wax vestas which unknown to her sister she put into the teapot, tea was made, and the accident was not discovered till the meal was Dearly finished and the teapot was being filled a second time, when the box of matches was seen in the teapot. A doctor was imme diately telegraphed for, and meanwhile emetics were administered with good effect. When the doctor arrived Mrs Russell was in a semi-collapsed condition, but the others were out of danger. To-day Mrs Russell was reported to be progressing favorably,
