Melbourne, July 2. Mr Quick withdrew the amended mail ratified by the Commonwealth. The revenue for the year from Customs and excise was £9,681,000, exceeding the Treasurer’s estimate by £626,000. Sir George Turner explains that the excess of duties came from grain, fodder, and sugar. From the grain duties New South Wales collected £290,000, Viotoria £120,000. Queensland £70,000, and the other States £IO,OOO. The postal revenue amounted to £3,483,000, being £39,000 iu excess of the estimate. The expenditure was £3,584,000, being £BOOO under the Treasurer’s estimates. The total surplus return of the States is £820,000. They got back £185,600, about three-fourths of the amount to which they were entitled.
