CANTERBURY COLLEGE.
By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, lant night. At a meeting of the Canterbury College Board of Governors to-day Ml- G. W. Bussell gave notice of motion that a committee be appointed to consider the advisableness of establishing a conservatorium of music in connection with the College, with power to take the evidence of musical experts and communicate with other musical institutions. It was resolved that the Registrar should communicate with the governing authorities of Dunedin and Nelson high schools, arid enquire what has been their experience of the introduction of the Government scheme of free places in secondary schools under their control. The opinion was expressed that a Government capitation of £6 was not sufficient to maintain the standard uf the high schools, and that a test distinct from a sixth standard should be adopted. The Chairman, Mr A. E. G. Rhodes, was empowered to send a deputation to Wellington durin" the session, and if he thought it necessary, to interview the Minister of Education.
