THE APPEAL COURT

WELLINGTON, last night. The Appeal Court opened this morning. All the .fudges were present, except .Judge Williams, who docs not arrive for a day or two. There are ten eases on the list for hearing. A• number of others will probably be set down during the sitting, including the Newtown and Bruce licensing appeals.

Later. —ln Ihe Appeal Court six additional eases were mentioned :i" to come on, either before the Una t of Appeal, or the full Bench of the .Supreme Court, including Newtown license ease, and a motion for leave to appeal to the Privy Council in the Port Chalmers licensing case, 'the Court fixed cases for to-morrow and Wednesday, and the various licensing cases follow these. The Court adjourned until Tuesday morning. CROWDED OPERA HOUSE. Mr Musgrove was fined forty sib - lings and costs to-day for bloc' mg the passage of the Opera Jlous and allowing people to sit on the steps. The three charges were taken as one. Defendant admitted the offence, but said that people insisted on sitting on the steps, and lie could not make them move. The chairs were removed after three days. LICENSING CASES. The Newtown and other licensing cases arc set down for hearing by the full Supreme Court on Thursday. Formal applications for licenses were made by the Newtown hotelkeepers to-day, and the Clerk of the Committee formally intimated that lie had no authority to issue.
