• According to M. Zybkoff, a Russian explorer, 'vho spent a year at Lihassa, disguised as a Llama, the regular population of the capital, which is most jealously guarded against tho ontranco of foreigners, is 10,000, ftnd tho Thibetan army numbers 4000 men, poorly disciplined, and armed with bows and arrows and obsolete guns. Ho states that tho population of the coun•y is decreasing.
