HAWKE’S BAY RACES.
Per Press Association, Napier, last night. Tho Hawke’s Bay Jookey Club’s Winter Meeting commenced to day. The weather was fine in the morning, but showers fell during the afternoon, and the course was a trifie heavy. There was a good attendance and first-class racing. The results wore :
Trial Steeplechase.—Hurricane 1, Umslopogaas 2, Benedictine 3. Won by a head. Time 4.11, divs. £4 14s and £ll3s. Light broke a leg, and had to bo shot. Winter Handicap.—Menura 1, Roseshoot 2, Waimoe 3. Won by a head. Time 2.2, divs. £4 5s and HI 3s. Ladies’ Bracelet. —Apres 1, Defoe 2, Repulse 3. Won by short head. Time 3,59, div, A 3 12s.
Hack Handicap Hurdles.—Evening 1, Ogle 2, Rags 3. Won easily. Timo 3.36, divs. £5 and .£1 18s.
Hawko’s Bay Hurdles, 200 sovs ; 2 miles. Hurricane, 9.0 1 Meteor, 9.9 2 Mourner, 9.0 3 Won by a length, aftor a good raco. Time 4.3, divs. £ll 16s and 17s. Hunt Club Steeplechase.—Hinewai 1, Draga 2, Benedictine 3. Won comfortably. Time 5.26, divs. £4 and £1 Bs. Corinthian Stakes Handicap.—Recoil 1, Hardwork 2, Mongouui 3. Won by a .length and a-half. Time 2.24, divs. £2 3s and 12s,
The sum of £lO3l was put through the totalisator.
