The Agent-General cables under date London 20th : There has been a better tone in the mutton market this week, and a firmer average price. Canterbury is at 33d, Dunedin, Southland, and Wellington Meat Export Company 3*d, other North Island brands 3*d, River Plate 3Jd. Lamb is very firm. The average price of New Zealand lamb, Canterbury brand, is s|d ; brands other than Canterbury, sd. There has been no alteration in beef recently. Butter continues in moderate demand at 94s per cwt. Cheese is declining gradually. To-day's price is 645. Canadian is at 555. The price of hemp, good, fair Wellington, on spot is £B3 10s, July to August shipments £3O 10s. The market is dull. Cocksfoot is quiet. Very little business is doing. The average price of bright, olean seed, weighing 171 b per bushel, is 47s per ewt.
