Tlu> Sydney Lord Mayor’s fund for the relief of Hie sufferers by the drought now amounts to £22,SB(>. ■ At" Adelaide two men were senfenced lo fourteen years’ imprisonment for breaking and entering a warehouse. Two children of Mr A. McDonald, of the Oaks, near Camden, New South Wales, fell into a creek, and were drowned. Doss have recently been poisoned in the streets of New Plymouth, owing to some one having scattered poison about. In keeping with the jealous attitude being assumed in Napier towards Gisborne, a correspondent to the Hawke's Bay Herald writes “ It is quite true that Wairon will in time be annexed to Poverty Bay. unless the business people of Napier look a little further than Hastingsstreet for the development and prosperity of the Hawke s Bay ptovinee. This matter of road improvement between Wairoa and Napier should not be allowed to rest. Napier people want to knock at the Government door continuously, and not be content until the present unsatisfactory position of affairs in regard to the Napier-Wairoa road is remedied.”
