EDUCATION AND OTHER MATTERS.

CHRISTCHURCH, last night. In the course of an interview, Mr Seddon said, regarding the coming •session, he intended to fix a given standard and minimum at which children should be admitted to secondary schools. The minimum age had not yet been determined upon, but the standard had been lixed at not lower than the fifth. Children who could not pass that standard would he excluded from the schools. lie anticipated that next session would be a long and arduous one. A great deal of business of an important, character had to be undertaken. Among other measures to introduced'was the Seamen and Shipping Dill, dealing with large questions on the lines of the Bill introduced last Ti.e Government, said Mr Seddon, would face the House with a very substantial majority, for he si in belli to the first, pricking of the card, which placed the Opposition at a maximum strength of twenty.
