MURDERING BABIES.

Patrick Knowles, a ten-year old matchseller, has been remanded at Stokton-on-Teos for decoying and murdering ii fifteen months’ baby. He confessed that he dug a hoie in the sand, laid the crying baby on its hack, Jilceu its pinafore over its face, then covered it with sand and smothered ic while it continued to cry and kick. JTe afterwards piled bricks and stones over the place. Prisoner was arrested taking a second baby to the same spot.
