MR H. M. PORTER’S APPOINTED SECRETARY.

At tho committee meeting of tho A. and P. Society, hold yesterday afternoon, the following members were present -Mr 1. Iloldeu (president) in the chair ; Messrs Dewing, W. Smith, Kirkpatrick, Macfarlano, W. Sherratt, H. N. Watson, L. T. Symes, C Gray, Barker, Bell, Strachan, Kennedy, Witters, and Eliott.

SHOW DATES,

Tho Poverty Bay Turf Club wrote replying to tho Society’s letfcor in regal'd to the question of Show dates, pointing out the only representation ovor made to the Society was that tho dates for the Spring Meeting wore appointed b.y tho Racing Conference For October 29th and oOth, Tho Metropolitan Club did not fix tho dates, which was done by tho Racing Conference. Tho Club also asked tho Committee to kindly explain what right it claimed to have to communicato with the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club in connection with the affairs of tho Poverty Bay Turf Club, botli clubs being entirely outside of

tiie Committee's jurisdiction. Mr Macfarlano regretted that tho bo ciety should have interfered us between ihe Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club and tho Poverty Bay Turf Club. The Secretary pointed out tiiat no official communication had been sent to the Hawke's Bay Jockey Club. Tho letter was a private one. _ Mr Symes considered tho Society should avoid any clashing with tho Turf Club. They should work together. On tne motion of Mr Sherratt, seconded by Mr Macfarlano, it was decided to reply to the Turf Club, stating that tho Committee disclaimed any communication with Hawke’s Bay with regard to dates, and tho letter referred to was a private one.

PLACE OF MEETING. T!n> Poverty Bay Farmers’ Club secretary (Mr li. M. Birrell) forwarded the followin''' resolution, adopted by the Committee of tho Club That the club room be offered to the A. and P. Society for their meetings, as this will fend to promote the general interests of the Club.’ Ou a division being taken the oiler was declined by a largo majority. SECRET AllY SHIP.

The following applications were received for tho position of secretary : —J. H. Gumming, W. E. Akroyd, R. M. Birroll, L. Ciavton, H. M. Porter, E. L. Maude. Three of the above were ballotted out, Messrs Porter, Clayton and Maude being left in. Mr H. M. Porter was elected on a final ballot. It was decided to allow £2O per annum for office expenses in addition to the salary of £SO a year. SHOW ENTRIES.

Mr 11. N. Watson moved that para„raph 2 of present rule 2, regarding the date when outside entries would bo received, bo rescinded, and tho old regulations be inserted instead, leaving out from tho word " void.” A voto being taken, there were six votes for and six against, the Chairman giving his casting vote against the motion, Mr Watson raised tho point as to whether the treasurer of tho Society (Mr Symes), ail ex-officio member of the Committee. was entitled to vote, holding that there was nothing in the rules to show that lie could do so. . Mr Macfarlano supported this view, but tho Chairman ruled that the treasurer could voto, and pointed out that Mr Watson could bring proof of his contention at a later meeting. Mr Watson asked that bis objection be noted, and this was done,
