PERSONAL.

Mr and Mrs J. Clark returned from

Auckland by the Zealandia yesterday. Mr G. Hindmarsb, of Tokornaru, left for the South by the Zealandia last evening.

The Rev. Gray Dixon and Mrs Dixon arrived in Gisborne yesterday afternoon. Mr Dixon will preach at St. Andrew’s on Sunday, and deliver a lecture next week. He is an able and eloquent preacher. Dr Pomare, Native Health Officer, accompanied by Mrs Pomare, arrived from Auckland yesterday afternoon. Dr Pomare has been through the native settlements

in the Auckland district, enforcing precautions against typhoid. He states the natives have suffered severely from the epidemic, c-spccially in the Waikato. He will be in Gisborne until Sunday, when he proceeds to Wellington to prepare his report for the ensuing session of Parliament.

Trooper J. Parker, a returned contingenter, leit for South Africa last evening. He joins the 5.3. Essex at Wellington on Saturday morning. The Rev. Father Lane arrived by the Zealandia yesterday afternoon to take charge of the country portion of the local Roman Catholic parish. He was stationed at Onehunga, and prior to his departure he was presented with an--' address, a purse of sovereigns, and a silver mounted umbrella by the congregation. The Rev. Father McGinnis leaves for Auckland on Saturday. Mr A. T. Hookey left for Auckland yesterday, and returns on Sunday. Mr W. A. Barton, S.M., and Messrs L. Rees and G. Lysnar left for the Coast yesterday morning to attend the Court sittings at Tolago Bay and Port Awanui. Mr D. K. Porter left for Christchurch last evening by the Zealandia, where he will represent the Poverty Bay Hockey Association in the North Island v. South Island on the 18. h inst.
