HAYGARTH’S COMEDY COMPANY.
At the Theatre Royal on Wednesday evening next the Haygartb Comedy Company will open for a season of four nights. The company, which has been playing to crowded houses throughout the Auckland district, will put on a fresh piece each evening, the repertoire including ‘‘The Private Secretary,” “ Charley’s Aunt,” “ Our Boys,” and “ Caste.” All these plays are very popular with Gisoorne audiences, and should draw crowded houses. Referring to Mr Havgarth’s impersonation of Charley’s Aunt a northern journal remarks: —‘‘Charley s Aunt was enthusiastically welcomed last night by a house which, for its size and the keen appreciation it displayed, has seldom or never been equalled here. ‘ I went expecting to be tickled with the humor of the play,’ said one of the audience on leaving the theatre, ‘ but I didn’t expect to come out of it with aching sides.’ His was a common experience. In his whimsical impersonation of Charley's Aunt Mr Haygarth was irresistible, and kept the house roaring with laughter.
