STEAM SERVICE
By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyriglr Ottawa, June 8.
In March last the Canadian Government invited tenders for a British owned Atlantic steamer service, the vessels to be of from 18 to 21 knots. One of the conditions was that the vessels should not call at any foreign port. Only two tenders have been received, one from the Bominion line, and the other from the Allan line. The Dominion tenders for a fortnightly 21 knot alternation with a 16 knot service, and asks for a subsidy of two hundred thousand pounds per annum, with sea postal freights. The Allan line tendered for a similar service, and asked three hundred thousand pounds subsidy. The Canadian Pacific Kailway Company declined to tender, preferring an all the year round service of 20 knots. There is a strong feeling in Canada against accepting any service controlled by the PierpontMorgan syndicate. It is understood that the Ottawa Government will not accept either tender owing to the stipulated restrictions.
