PROHIBITION CONVENTION.

(Per Press Association ) PALMERSTON N., last night. The Prohibitionists of Wellington, Taranaki, and Hawke’s Bay districts commenced a three-days’ convent ion to-day. Over forty delegates were present. The proceedings commenced with a tea. The Revs. Richards (Palmerston), Dcwdiie.v (Wanganui), and Miller (Napier), and Mr liawkiiis (Pahiatua) were the principal speakers. The last-named made a vigorous speech. The Government. lie said, had not trusted the people fairly mi the question, lie quoted the Official Year Book of 1 nil2 to prove the close connection between drink and crime. Parents, he declared, who voted with the trade were partners in that- trade and in the ruin which it- wrought.
