APPOINTMENT OFFERED TO MR R. N. JUNES.

In the course ol his speech on ! the name land question on Tuesday night, the Hon. J. And 1 may say from my knowledge ol .Ur -Jones that ill l shoi.lu iie aiuuirably suited lor me position. iie is painstaking, iie has tact, ne is conscientious, iie is unontrusiie, he lias the ability, and ne has a large heart, i am certain

he wiii be popular with the natives, iii.s training and experience bent linn lor tile position, ami i know that lie. equal with anyone oi us, would have a great desire to see the interests oi this district pre-eminent and justice done to it. 1 am sure no one can gainsay that the appointment would ne an excellent one, and that it would reflect credit on any party m power ii all appointments were oi the same order. (Applause.; Ilis Hxceilency Ims to make the appointment. 1 can only oiler it now, but 1 do not think there is anything in the way of .Mr Julies accepting the position, and I think I can say that

lie will be the President ui the Last Coast .Maori Land Council. The position carries with it Lie powers oi a Judge oi the Native Land Court, and lie will also be Registrar oi Lands and Deeds. (Applause.) We understand that Mr Jones lias intimated that lie will accept the appointment offered, but some little time must elapse before it is ratified by llis excellency.
