DEPUTATIONS.
By Tolocraph—Press Association. Christchurch, last night. A deputation of members of the Canterbury Philosophical Institute waited on Sir Joseph Ward this morning, and asked in event of legislation being introduced in connection with tho New Zealand Institute that provision bo made for greater representation than at present on the Board of Governors of affiliated societies, for the appointment of manager of tho Institute, and for more regular meetings of tho Board. Sir J. G. Ward undertook to have the representations of the deputation fullyfconsidered by Ministers when matters connected with the Institute were dealt with. . , ~ He was asked by a deputation from the Poultry Association to permit tho carriage of poultry for exhibition at shows by express trains. Replying, Sir J- Cf. Ward said to do so would interfere with the functions of the express, and would lead to racehorse owners asking for similar concessions. With regard to the carnage of poultry for the Southern shows, lio considered that a more satisfactory arrangement would be to put it on the through night train.
