THAT RUMOR.

(To the LJditou Gisborne Times.) ,Sir,—Ke,sardine; Hie rumor cabled l„ a New York journal from its ;,()ii(loii correspondent, re alleged iutcn 1 1 (> i i of I lie New Zealand Govein.aeni to acquire the Knglish Prime .Minister’s estate in lhe Mauawatu, ! am inclined to question the corlectness of its being held up as an example of the wax the colony is li.,l'lled or maligned abroad. Unless my memory fails me, a similar statement or rumor appeared in one of our own journals some six months or so ago. I for one should imagine that if .Mr Keddou actually did contemplate this step he will not vow carry it into’ effect ; hut should i e do so, it would only la: consonant with his general policy until perhaps recently. ‘ Whether for weal or woe some degree of change is coming ovci i lie spirit of the dream so far as out leading politicians are concerned For instance, some years ago Sit .1 ii Ward stigmatised .Mr Chamber tain as “ Judas ” in the House o Keprcscnialives, Iml now he alway raises and supports him—l nm.etc 1 ON LOOK UK.
