Compared with the March series tide Crossbreds were V. to JO per cent, dearer; lower grades, 10 to 15 per cent, dearer; fine merinos par to 5 per cent. ; medium, 7.J- per cent, dearer. During the scries 88,000 hales sold for lioruo consumption, 05,000 for the Continent, 5000 for America, and 20,000 were held over. The wool sales included the following clips : Kalcamoaria 7/.d, Paviemorc »:]d, Richmond 0,;, Higbfield 101 d, Matahiwi 7DI, Wuhvalpa G.:d.
Per Press Association, Wellington, last night. Tho Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cable from the Agent-General, dated ‘idl'd : Mutton market dull and weak. Average price to day for Canterbury mutton is if;jd lb, Dunedin, Southland and Wellington Aleut Export Company o,;d lb, other brands North Island motion d.Li to -ppl. River Pluto mutton is in small supp.y, ami firmly field. The quantity of mutton going into consumption at present is very sma.L The lamb market is quiet. Tho average pi ice to-day for Canterbury brand is 4 fpl, for brands other than Canterbury lid lb. The beef market is steady. The average ptico to-day for New Zealand hindquarters is did lb, forequarters Jj.id. Transactions in New Zealand nuttor are very limited. Prices irregular ; nominally 'J7.s ewt, Danish 100 s. The cheese market is steady, (Ids, new Canadian. (Lis. Tho hemp market is active ut higher prices. Tho price for good fair Wellington on spot to-day is £35, May shipment £33, June shipment X 32 10s, There is scarcely any demand for cocksfoot seed on spot. Prices nominal ; fair business being done in forward shipment ut 45s to 40s cwfc. Crossbred wool firm.
