MOTOR RACE.
FROM MADRID TO PARIS,
EIGHT FATALITIES. liy Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Received 12.55 a.m., May 26. Paris. May 25. Throe hundred thousand Parisians picnicked Saturday night in Buis de Boulogne and all the way to Ycrscilles to witness the start of 223 competitors in tho Paris to Madrid motor race, organised by the automobile clubs oi Franco and Spain. There was extraordinary interest shown throughout the south-west of France. Eight fatalities occurred between Paris and Bordeaux, including two competitors, three drivers, one soldier, a woman, and a child.
Many spectators experienced accidents. One car overturned, ignited, and burnt an English competitor to death. M. Gabriel, on a ninety horse-power Motts car, reached Bordeaux in five hours thirteen minutes, averaging ID miles an hour. Occasionally ho travelled at a speed of one hundred miles. Louis, on a Renault car, was second, lie averaged 62 miles an hour. Only 68 competitors reached Bordeaux. Tho French and Spanish governments prohibit the continuance of tho race.
