STOCK SALE.

AT WAERENGA-A-HIKA

There was a large attendance at the monthly stock sale held by Messrs Common, Shelton and Co. and Dalgety and Co. yesterday, and good prices were realise!. An excellent lunch was provided b.y host O’Connell, of the Waerenga-a-hika Hotel.

Messrs Common, Shelton and Co. report : —At the Waerenga-a-hika stock sale yesterday the entries comprised 275 head ot cattle, 1200 sheep, and 24 pigs, of which we sold 226 cattle, 1000 sheep, and all the pigs. An entry of 700 wethers was prevented from coming by bad weather up country. Many of the cattle were of exceptional character, and buyers showed their appreciation of this by competing eagerly. Inferior sorts were not easy to quit except at comparatively low’ rates. There was a brisk demand for sheep, and prices were fully maintained. The principal lines sold ivere as follows :—Fifteen light beef bullocks £6 16s, 20 weaner heifers (a choice lot) £3 6s, 30 weaner steers £3 Is, 14 weaner steers £2 9s, 12 weaner heifers £2 13s, 13 light beef cows £5 2s 6d, better sorts £5 12s 6d to .£6, 19 2-year-old steers (inferior) £3 15s, ISmonths steers (inferior) £2 10s to £3, ISmonth heifers £4 to £4 Ss, calves from 25s to 50s. Sheep : Forward wethers 10s 6d to 10s lOd, backward ditto 9s 6d, fullmouth ewes 5s to 7s 6d, eulis os 3d. Pigs : Good sows 20s to 40s, porkers 14s, weaners 6s 3d.
