By Telecraph—Press Association. Wellington, last night. In affirming the conviction in the appeal case, Clarke v. Leslie, in which Clarke, a hotelkeeper at Hawera, appealed against a conviction for selling liquor on Sunday, the Chief Justice spoke strongly on the amount of perjury committed in such cases, and said it was about timo steps were taken to put an end to the perjury that in almost every case was committed. The present was the worst case he had had before him, although appellant was not himseif personally to blame.
