Per Press Associat.i m. Auckland, last night. James Gamble, carter, who was dragged on the tram line by a horse, and severely injured by a tram car last week, died at the hospital this morning. At the Police Court this morning Alexander Smith and Laurence Itoston, two recent arrivals from Sydney, pleaded guilty to charges of burglary and theft at stores at Aramoho aod Castlecliffe, and were committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. They were arrested on Sunday night when breaking into tho refreshment rooms at Patea, and similar charges are pending at Taranaki. Wellington, last night The case in which Sirnson claimed £3O bonus from hotel keepers end a brewer, for securing evidence to upset the Newtown local option poll, came before the Court again to-day. Tho Magistrate advised a settlement out of Court aud adjourned tho case to allow this to be done. Tho money was then paid.
