ADVANCE IN PRICES.
By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright London, May 17. The wool market is brisk. Low crossbreds are a farthing dearer than at the opening rates, and fine crossbreds and merinos a half penny dearer. Continental buyers are taking a fair share of both. The following prices were realised: Owhaoko 10 ;d, Okirae 7jd, Raglan 7 >; d, l'iti (Waipiru station) B,\d, Kama 10;,a. Amount catalogued to date 130,459 bales , sold 126,004 bales. Kabbit skins: Good demand. New Zealand winters have declined lid; other sorts unchanged. Hemp firm ; fair \\el* lington, May shipment, .£32 Sheep : Canterbury, light, 3 11-16 G, medium 3-a. heavy 3 11-101, Dunedin and Southland B:]d, North Island3sd. Lambs: Canterbury, light, 4 11-10 d, heavy 4 9-16 d, Dunedin and Southland 4id, North Island 4gd. . Beef : Nominal, fores B}d, hinds 4 2 d. The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cablegram trom the Agent General, dated London, May 10th Mutton market depressed, stocks of mutton on hand heavy and widely distributed amongst agents, who aro pushing sales. Average prices to-day : Canterbury mutton Dunedin, Southland, and Wellington Meat Export Company 3f,d, other North Island mutton is Bftd, average price to-day of River Plato mutton is 3»d per lb, for which the rates are steady. Lamb market weak, though a good demand continues, and there is competition amongst holders of lamb to clear their stock at lowered values. Average price to-day of New Zealand lames, Canterbury brand, is 4f|d per lb, brands other than Canterbury 4.U1 per lb. Beef market quiet, and steady. Average price to day for hind quarters of New Zealand beef is 4j!d per lb, forequarters o 2 d. Transactions in butter aro very limited, 97s per cwt, Danish 995. Cheese market steady, G6s per cwt. Hemp market firm ; good business has been done ; price good; fair Wellington grade on spot to-day is £34 per ton, May shipment £3l 10s, Juno shipment £3l. Cocksfoot seed, market quiet, buyers holding back ; nominal avorago price bright, clean New Zealand cocksfoot seed, weighing 171 b per bushel, on spot, 46s per cwt.”
