Dealing with the perjury case in the. .Supreme Court, the Chief .Justice said : “ f do not ordinarily grant probation in perjury cases, because I think it one of the worst of crimes—one which tends to destroy the foundation of justice. If people are allowed to come into Court, and give false testimony, no one can say what might he done. If might destroy altogether the foundations' of the administration of justice, which, after all, is the basis of every civilised community.”

’ AUCKLAND, last night. Kaukapakapa electors have petitioned for the annulment, of the Kaipara Licensing Committee election, on tlie ground that- no polling booth was opened in their district. Mr Hutchison. S.M., gave judgment today, deciding in favor of the petitioners. There were forty-eight votes between the lowest successful candidate and the unsuccessful ones, and at. least fifty-eight electors were prevented from voting.
