LONDON MARKET REPORT

Per Press Associationj Wellington, last night. Tho Department of Industries and Commerce has received tho following cable from the Agent-General, London, dated 10th inst “ Importations of River Plate frozen meat and butter into the United Kingdom during last month (April) wero : Mutton, 60,053 carcases landed at London, 208,451 at Liverpool, and 14,856 at Hull and’ Newcastle ; lamb, 3302 carcases landed at London, 17,000 at Liverpool, and 3052 at Hull and Newcastle ; butter, 9179 cwt landed at Liverpool and London. The Department has received tho following cablegram, dated London, 9th inst : “Trade for all classes of mutton has been very slow, and prices arc barely maintained. Tho average price to-day for Canterbury mutton is 4’ t d; Duuedin, Southland, and W.M.E. Co., 4d; other North Island mutton, 3:Jd; River Plofrt Hi Tho Ifimh market is WCftk.

Plate, dr,d. The lamb market is weak. Tho average price to-day for Canterbury lamb is 4 : Jd ; for brands other than Canterbury, 4j;d; lliver Plate, 4.’d. The beef market is quiet, at former prices. The butter market is dull, at 99s per ewt. ; Danish 101 s per ewt., Argentine 945. The cheese market is falling, at 60s per ewt, Tho hemp market is firm, at former prices. There is a disposition to sell distant hemp. October-December shipments have been sold at T 29 ; tho stock is 513 tons, as against 342 tons last year. The cocksfoot seed market is quiet; the average price for bright, clean New Zealand cocksfoot seed, weighing 171 b per bushel, on the spot, is 50s per ewt. The wool market is active, and advancing."
