LICENSING CASES.

SOME IMPORTANT POINTS^ Per Press Associate m. PALMERSTON N., last night, Mr Greenfield, S.M., gave judgment this morning in connection with two charges against William Moore, licensee of the railway refreshment rooms for selling liquor io non-travellers on Good Friday. The Court decided, that as the Government Railways Ael, 1900, prescribed the hours of opening and closing the rooms, and it had been admitted by tho prosecution that liquor was sold during the prescribed hours, except that u was Good Friday, no breach of the Licensing Act had been committed. The Stipendiary Magistrate pointed out that the license was granted under the Government Railways Act, 1900, and not under the provisions of the Act bringing such licenses under the control of the Licensing Act, and consequently lie was of opinion that a licensee under the former Act could not, he made amenable to the penal clauses of the Licensing Act. WELLINGTON, last'night. In reference to the case of Beauchamp, licensee of the Tramway Hole 1 , convicted of a breach of the licenses Jaw, but who appealed, ’ and died before judgment was given, the Chief .Justice this morning held that death abated the proceedings and tiie conviction could not stand.

This is the first time the point has lecn raised in ,the colony^
