CONFLICTING EVIDENCE AS TO SIGNALS.

(Per Press Association.) Wanganui, last night.

The enquiry into the stranding of the Glcnelg on the bar on February 3rd wus ! concluded to-day. The evidence of the pilot was to the effect that the auxiliary schooner Toroa came down the river without a masthead light. As she stopped when a quarter of a mile from the entrance he signalled to the Glcnelg to take the bar. The Glenelg did so, and tne Toroa at the same time again started. The pilot •signalled her to stop, hut she continued on, with the result that the Glenelg was run ashore to avert a collision. Tne captain and crew of the Toroa state that head lights were carried, and that the pilot did not order them to stop. The captain of the Toroa was ordered to pay ten shillings costs.
