DEATH OF MR LEVIN
Bv Tolegraph—Press Association. Wellington, last night. News has been received in town of the death in London of Mr R, W. Levin, founder of tbo firm of Levin and Co., of this city. Doeoased was oighty-four years of ago. SMUGGLER FINED.
Charles Pyno, described as an electrical engineer, was charged with petty' smugg-
ling to-day by bringing a parcel containing two pieces of lace and a pair of boots ashore from tho steamer Victoria without paying duty, and was fined £8 and 7s costs. UNFAIRLY TREATED.
Mr Seddon to-night promised a deputa' tion from the friendly societies that he would ouquire into tho system of docking Is 6d per day from the pay of policemen and members of the permanent force while sick, for medical attendance, when such men wore members of societies. DELAYED MAILS.
Tho San Francisco mails which left Auckland on March 27, did not roach London until Wednesday, four days late. DREDGING. Tho Tokaka Sluicing Co. cleared up 30 ounces for throe days' work.
