The Mayoral election took dluco to-day, and resulted in tho return lof Captain Riley, tho polling being a$ follows : Riley 434, Larsen 340, Miushjd) 328. Greymouth, ilast night. In tho Mayoral olection to-jday unusual interest was taken. Tho result was :—A. Matheson (present Mayor) 480, J. Stoor 770. Tho result of tho oieotibii of Councillors cannot be known til about midnight. Thero aro 15 candidates. Wanganui, last night. Tho olection of tho Councilors to-day resulted in tho return of —R N. Liffiton, A. G. Bignell, E. Perrett, F. 11. Battle, T. U. Johns, A. M. McLeod, 8. Griffiths, G. 8. Bridge, and P. Bell. Three members ol the old Council wero defatted. Thero were 17 candidates. Auckland, last night. Hon. E. Mitchclsou was e ected Mayor of Auckland to-day, defeating Messrs Stichbury, Richardson, and llowson. Napier, last night. Tho Municipal elections tj-day caused very little excitement, thougl the poll was fairly large. Messrs Lasccllcs, E. H. Edwards, McGrath, Thomson, Cohen, Eagletou, Wilson, Granby, and Spence were elected. Tho Hastii gs Borough olection resulted in the rctui n oi Messrs Maddison, Roach, W. 11. The voting resulted as follows: Mayor, John Manchester (re-elected) 151, C. V Clarko 149 ; Councillors, W. L. Scott 229, 11. C. Barclay 212, N. Francis 211, W. Coffman 199 r D. A. Morgan 183, J. W. Freeman 180, F. W. 8. Jones 179, R. Inkster 176, J. Sinclair 174, C. A. Wilson 154, F. J. Maindonold 154, G. Dash 149. 'i’do first named councillors were declared elepted. Duuodinj last night. Tho Mayoral elections,; resulted Dunedin City : T. Scott 2870, Maitland 872, majority 1998. For tho South and Reii Ward tho old Councillors were reelected. Or Muir was rejected for High Muir, and McDonald, one ol the retiring membors for Leith Ward, only secured third placo, Barnes, a new man, being second. Thero was a keen contest for Mornington, Arnaud, ex-Mayor, defeating W. Gow, retiring Mayor, by 104 votes. For South Duuedin, Ohctwinj the retiring Mayor, was re-elected. New Plymouth, last night.

In tho Mayoral election t,o-day there was unusual interest. The retiring Mayor, Mr Dockrill, was defeated by R. Cock by 214 votes. The former secured 503, and tho latter 717. Including the Mayor the Council now has five new members. Palmerston North, last night.

Major Dunk was elected Major of Palmerston to-day by a good majority over Messrs S. Abrahams and It. Edwards. Tho following Councillors were elccted-r-H. Haydon, A. Jack, E. J. Armstrong! A. France, F. W. Bunting, D. Pringle, J. M. Johnson, R. W. Goodgor, und H. Foley. Wellington ' last night. Very little interest was shown in the municipal elections to-day, despite it being the first under the Greater Wellington amalgamation. For tho City all the outgoing Councillors, with tho exception of Mr Tolhurst, were re-elected. His place was taken by Mr Wiltshire, lato city engineer. Mr Winder was rolurnod at tho head of the poll for the Melrose ward of tho city. Jorgenson, Brest, and Keene wore returned at Karori. Fisdall defeated the sitting member, Tarr, by 91 votes in the borough of Onslow. A. R. Atkinson, anti John Hutcheson, ex-M.H.It., wero at tho bottom of tho poll for south ward.

Waihi, last night. W. Phillips was re-elected Mayor by a large majority.

Stratford, last night. The polling for the Mayoralty resulted : King 284, Monkhouse 197.
