NUHAKA NORTH NOTES.

The adjourned annual meeting of the Nukaka branch of the N.Z. Farmers’ Union was held on Saturday, 18th April. , There was a good attendance, Mr M. J. Joblin presiding. In the absence of Mr Proudlock, Mr Sloan acted as Secretary for the day. Tho balance-sheet for last year was read and passed. It showed a deficit of Ho 16s 6d. It was resolved that a vote of thanks be tendered to Mr DeLautour for his services to tho Union in connection with the harbor at Waikokopu. Votes of thanks were also accorded to Mr Joblin, the retiring Chairman, and to Mr Proudlock for their services for the past year, and also to Sir William Bussell for tho interest he has taken in assisting to get sundry Parliamentary votes spent in their proper place, on the Mahia and Waikokopu roads, and also for securing Mr Napier Bell’s report. It was resolved that tho Union gives its support to the Bill for Mutual Insurance of Farmers Bisks, proposed to be introduced into Parliament by Mr Kirkbride ; that the Telephone Department be requested to continue the line through from Wharerata to Morere via Tarawa, and that an office be opened at Tarewa; also that this Union is opposed to the measure foreshadowed by Mr Seddon at Napier, that the employment of Trades' Unionists shall bo compulsory in all branches where a union exists. The report of Mr Napier Bell, C. 8., on Waikokopu harbor was then react by Mr Gactdum. The report was long, explicit. and accompanied by plans, and was considered satisfactory. It was moved byMr Shaw, and seconded by Mr Walker, and carried, that the report be given to the press fur publication. The payment of Mr Napier Bell’s fee was then considered, and it was agreed that Messrs Joblin and Gaddurn he authorised to collect, if possible, oue-sixteenth of a penny per pound throughout the proposed rating district, and pay Mr Napier Bell's expenses. Mr Proudlock was elected Chairman for the ensuing year, and Mr Joblin Secretary. The Chairman was appointed delegate to the Provincial Council of the N.Z. Farmers' Union. It was moved byMr Shaw, seconded by Mr Coop, and carried, that the annual subscriptions to this branch of the Farmers’ Uniou be ss. On the motion of Mr Stewart, it was decided that tho Committee consist of all the members present at the meeting. It was resolved that the plans and report on Waikokopu harbor be handed over to the Harbor Board. There was a sharp frost at Tarewa on Wednesday morning. A slight shock of < earthquake was also felt at about 0.80 u.m.
