GISBORNE CADETS.
A SHOOTING MATCH.
The Gisborne cadets fired a match against the Eden Cadets (Auckland), each corp firing in their own district. The Auckland team were to have fired on Saturday, but owing to the Alt. Eden range becoming dangerous through a slip, they had to postpone their shooting till next Saturday. The Gisborne cadots fired on Thursday, and matte a very creditable score, considering the small amount oi practieo thoy have done, some ot the lads making scores worthy of older shots, It is also the first time they have fired at the Bisley target, whicli makes it much harder tor large scores. The conditions for the teams match were II shots at 200yds ; 10 men to shoot, the best 8 only to count. The lads also fired a company’s handicap match ; 10 shots at 200,yds, for three prizes. Eirst prize, half-a-dozen photos, presented by Mr Inues, which was won by Sergeant Buttler, who shot very consistently ; Cooper (a recruit) and Friar taking money prizes. An elderly woman named Jane Gordon jumped off Hawthorn bridge into the Yarra, at Melbourne. A young fellow followed and rescued hor alter narrowly escaping drowning.
