A niuo-roomed house in Hastings streot, owned and occupied by Mr H. Beaumont, was destroyed by tiro last evening. The fire originated in the children s bedroom, and was caused by a lighted candle setting fire to the curtains. The flames lfad a good hold when dncovored, and very little was saved. Tho building, which was an old one and formerly occupied by tho ox-mayov, Mr Swan, was, with its contents, insured tor ,£750.
