At the Police Court to-day, before Messrs JJowdeti, Hay and Ward, J.P.’s, Pilot Joseph Day was charged with manslaughter in that ho caused the death of George Spring. The case arose out of the fatal accident last month, whereby Spring was drowned while crossing the Sumner bar in u motor launch vith another man, Franklin. The critical part of the evidence was Franklin's statement that he proposed that they should run in whore the baths used to bo instead of crossing Sho bar Deceased replied that the signals would be sure to be up it' the bar was dangerous, as Day was always at Sumner on Sunday afternoons. The danger signals were not up, or they would not have gone on.
