MAORI COUNCIL.

(To the Editor of the Times)

Sir, — Wo sob by the Times that it is the wish ;.i the Farmers’ Union that the two European members of the Maori Council, Messrs Joyce and Towulcy, should resign as a protest against tiie Government’s delay in bringing tiie Maori lands into the market. As Mr Joyce and also Mr Townwere appointed by a Maori petition, we object to them resigning at the request of the Europeans, as we shall not have the same conlidence in their successors. The Maoris recognise that their two Europeans, Messrs Joyce and Townley, would do wrong to resign, because the lands belong to the Maoris, and we know that these two gentlemen will see that justice is done to them. That is why we do not want them to resign.—l am, etc.,

Tuta Niuomuo,
