TO THE ELECTORS OK THE BOROUGH OK GISBORNE. ADIES AND GLNTLE.MEK, - I have the honor to offer myself as a candidate for your suffrages at the forthcoming Borough Election ; and, if elected, shrill do my utmost to study the interests of electors and support all practical measures for the progress of the town. I shall strongly suppoit a water and drainage scheme, as being essential to the heath of the community. Better street lighting anil maintenance is also necessary, and 1 shoul-i support ariangemants for obtaining metal from Kaitnratah 1 by rail. I am in favor of a bridge over the Taruheru river at the upper aid of t’ue town, thus connecting Whataupoko and Gisborne. I should consistently sen that each portion of iho Borough receives its fair share of public expenditure, and advocate all matters tending to advance Gisborne to the foremost rank of colonial town. Should you do me the honor to elect roe as one of your Councillors, it shall be my chief object to study the interests of the ratepayers and the progress of the town in general. I have the honor to be, Ladies and Gentlemen, Yours respectfully, JOHN COLLEY. TO THE ELECTORS OK THE BOROUGH OK GISBORNE. T ADIES AND GENTLEMEN,— JLI In solicit!’ g your support at the forthcoming Election, I submit for your approval tiie following:—First in importance is water and drainage. J favor Waihirore and Mr Mcstaycr’s scheme. With regard to bridges, rather than tamper with or widen the Taruhoru bridge (which will require redecking in a few years), I am in favor of the erection of a bridge at the upper end of the town. In dealing with the question of road metal, I think a great, saving could he effected by not only using river metal for side streets, but by tarring main streets one block at a time, as funds will permit. This has proved successful in other towns where metal is loss costly. As to the better lighting of the Borough, i think the best and must economical way would be for the Couueil to purchase the present Gasworks at a remunerative prioe. I will favor amalgamation with the suburbs, if shown to ho for the general welfare, thereby securing iucreased representation in Parliament. These arc, X think, tne most important questions of the present time, and if you do me the honor to elect me as one of your representatives, I will use my utmost endeavors to promote the welfare of the Borough as a whole. Your obedient servant, T. MORRISON. iij
