The Vancouver correspondent of the Star records the tragic death of Alfred Charles Anderson, a native of Dunedin, at Victoria, B.C. Death resulted from injuries received while, lie was on file spree. George Jeffs, who was in Anderson’s company, is in custody on a charge of manslaughter. Accused alleged that deceased was injured while resisting an effort made to get deceased safely home. NAPIER, last night. F. W. Williams was re-elected unopposed as Mayor. For nine councilships, seventeen nominations have been received. For the Hastings Mayoralty, W. Y. Dennett was re-el-ected unopposed. Four nominations have been received for the Council. MASTERTON, last night.
Threshing in this district is completed, and the returns are satisfactory. The crops are particularly clean and free from smut.
CHRIST CHURCH, last night, The Secretary' of the Lyttelton Harbor Board has forwarded to the Admiral of the Japanese squadron, through the Minister of Marine, an invitation to make Lyttelton a port of call.

INVERCARGILL, last night. Several cases under the Old Age Pensions Act were before the Court, oil the allegation of wasting means in drink. Two convictions being recorded against, him, one pensioner was struck oil. A wom a n who had not been before ihe Court for inebriety, but who, it was alleged, spent her pension in drink, was similarly dealt with. The pension of another woman, who had made a false declaration in regard to property, was cancelled. Among the passengers by the steamer Victoria is Mr C. Hudson, one of the recently-appointed Victorian Railway Commissioners, who proceeds to Wellington, remaining three weeks in Die colony. TIM Alt U, last, night, The South Canterbury Hospital and Charitable. Aid Board to-day fixed the* levy for the year on the contributing local bodies, at .£4OOO, as against £385!) last year.
