A prominent fruitgrower of this city has received a letter from a gentleman in Sydney who is making inquiries into fruit here. lie represents a Hamburg firm, and states he was requested to seek •information in regard to shipment of apples to Hamburg, his firm there being prepared to receive any quantity of that fruit. He asks if regular shipments could he relied upon, and if the quality would bo good. The fruitgrower passed the letter to tlie Secretary of the Canterbury Fruitgrowers’ Association, who has forwarded the desired information. The civil sessions of the Supreme Court opened this morning. There is a light list five civil and three divorce eases. Oil Saturday evening a seven-roomed house, occupied by Mr George Burt, was totally destroyed. The adjoining building,
six rooms, owned by Jas. Jamieson, and occupied by Andrew Telford, was partly gutted. The house on the other side, owned by the occupiers, Mrs Evans, was severely scorched. The insurances were — Burt’s residence, £260, furniture £l90 — both .in the Royal office ; .Jamieson’s house £2OO Victoria office; Evan’s house £2OO, furniture £IOO —in the Victoria office.
