'There was some talk in town of nominating a prominent gentleman who has previously occupied the position of Mayor, so as to give a contest for Ihe seat . Mr Townlcy, however, is so popular, and is adjudged to have made such a model Mayor, that it was unanimously agreed hy those who had mooted the matter to give solid support to the gentleman who lias well nigh gained all Australasian record as the holder of the office of Chief Magistrate.
