The Governor has fixed Empire Day (May 25) as the date for tho laying of tho foundation storio of tho Veterans’ Homo. After the ceremony tho Governor will ontortuin tho veterans at Government House. Christchurch, last night. Tho weathor was fine for tho holidays, though in tho afternoon it became co>d and threatening. Crowds of people went to the races and soaside resorts, over 18,000 being carried on the Christchurch Tramway Company’s lines A boy named Walter Hobson, aged about ’l3 years, fell off the Lyttolton train this evening. Ho waß run over by several carriages and killed. The body was much I mutilatod.
