TRAM COLLISION.
FIVE PERSONS INJURED.
EXTRAORDINARY MANAGEMENT OF A STEAM TRAM.
[BV TELEGRAPH. —FREB3 ASSOCIATION.] Christchurch, last night. A tram accidont occurred at the Ferry - i road line on Saturday evening, by which a number of persons woro more or loss injured. A steam tram from Christchurch to Sumner and a horso tram from Woolstonto Christchurch should have passed each other at a siding near tho Caversham Hotel, but as tho horso tram was not thero tho steam tram, without waiting, went on, and the collision took placo some hundred yards further down tho line. It is said that tbo driver of tho horse car rang his bell continuously but without attracting notico, tho drivor of tho engine being engaged in stoking his fire. Seeing that a collision was imminent the driver of the horso tram pulled his borsos oil tho lino, but one received such severe injuries that it shortly afterwards died. Fivo persons were injured. Tho most serious casq is that of a small boy, son of Mrs Malcolm, ' of Grafton stroet, who is suffering from concussion of tho brain. Mrs Buchanan, of Woolston, received a nasty injury over the eye, and her baby was somewhat bruised, though not sovorely. A man named Thomas Parsens received some injury to his knoo, tho extent of which is not yet certain. Mrs Turner sustained a bad cut on the side of the head. Several other people on both trams wore more or loss bruisod.
