A SPORTING SENSATION.
AN EX-GISBORNE HORSE IN SOUTH AUSTRALIA.
By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Received 12.25 a.m., April 14. Adelaide, April 13. The entry and subsequent withdrawal of the New Zealand horse Evening Wonder from the Great Eastern Steeplechase, which was run to-day, led to the Jockey Club Committee calling upon the trainer to appear before them to-morrow to explain the circumstances of the arrival of the horse at Adelaide, and of a training track license being applied for and issued under the name of Maori Chief. Both Evening Wonder and Maori Chief were entered for the big jumping races at Onkaparinga meeting, but after the alleged Maori Chief had been some time training, it was discovered that the horse had not left New Zealand. Pending to-morrow’s enquiry all wages on Onkaparinga and other local events in respect to Maori Chief and Evening Wonder are suspended.
